Bout of Books 8.0: Day 1

Yay, Bout of Books is here!!  I’m super excited for this read-a-thon because it’ll give me a chance to get a bunch of reading done.  August is more than half over and I’ve only read 4 books!  I’ve been really busy the past few days and then had a cold so my head was all stuffy but it’s cleared up and I’m in prime reading condition!  🙂

I’m also staying at my mom’s house this week so I have access to a different library.  I took a trip there this afternoon and picked up a few books.  Before I went I checked online to see which ones they had and if they were available. Then when I got there I didn’t see quite a few on the shelves.  After double checking I realized some were at the other library across town.  So I requested them and they should be in within a few days so I can still use them in the Readathon!

Here are the books I picked up:

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan: I started reading this on the Kindle but there was a long family tree at the beginning which I assumed I’d have to refer to as I read to keep track of the characters.  The Kindle isn’t the best for switching between pages so I picked up a physical copy of it instead.

The Explorer by James Smythe The Explorer by James Smythe: A science fiction thriller set in space. What’s not to like?  I originally was looking for Smythe’s other book, The Machine, but they didn’t have it at the library so I got this instead.

I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen: I saw this book on the list of 200 Books Recommended by TEDsters.  I didn’t realize it was a kids book and only about 30 pages long.  But short books are perfect for me during read-a-thons because they give me momentum so I picked it up.

It’s a Book by Lane Smith It’s a Book by Lane Smith: A short little book about books and reading! And another tiny book that will kick off my reading this week.

Death Warmed Over by Kevin J. Anderson Death Warmed Over by Kevin J. Anderson (Dan Shamble, Zombie PI #1): I’d never heard of this series and saw book #3 on the new books shelf at the library. It’s a science fiction series about a zombie PI and it sounded cool.  So I found the first book in the series to check out.

Priceless by Marne Davis Kellogg Priceless by Marne Davis Kellogg (Kick Keswick Mysteries #2): I’ve been looking for copies of this series about a jewel thief for ages!  I was so surprised to find them at the library but they had books #2 and #3 at the library nearby and #1 across town. So I grabbed the second book and have requested the first one.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom: I’ve never read anything by Albom and this has been on my TBR for a while.  It’s also a relatively short book so I grabbed it in case I need something else to read.

So there are 7 books.  I probably won’t read all of them but at least I have quite a few options and won’t run out of reading material.  And hey, I just might end up finishing all of them if they’re good.

What other books are you reading?  Have you visited Sarah’s blog for her awesome mini-challenge?  What other reading goals do you have for the week?
